Beef and Broccoli Recipe

Ingredients

For the Beef and Marinade:

• 500g of flank steak, thinly sliced
• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1 tsp sesame oil
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch

For the sauce:

• 1/4 cup soy sauce
• 1 tsp sugar or honey
• 1 tbsp ginger, minced
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch (mixed with 3 tablespoons/45ml water)

For the Rest of the Dish:

• 3 tbsp vegetable oil
• 1 onion, sliced
• 3 gloves of garlic, minced
• 1 head of broccoli, cut into bite-sized pieces
• Green onion
• Sesame seeds
• Salt and pepper (don’t forget the soy sauce is full of salt already)

Directions

• Marinade the beef for one hour with the soy sauce, sesame oil and cornstarch (if you are in a hurry you can shorten the marinade time);

• Whisk together soy sauce, sugar, ginger, and cornstarch in a bowl; stir until sugar has dissolved;

• Heat your wok over high heat until smoking. Add 2 tablespoons oil and sear the beef on both sides until browned, add the onions and garlic and fry until the onions are soft and gold;

• Add the broccoli, salt and pepper, stir and fry for two minutes;

• Add in the sauce mixture you made earlier and stir, allow it to simmer and thicken for 30 seconds - 1 minute;

• Turn off the heat, add green onion and sesame seeds;

• Serve over rice.

Tips:

• You can add bean sprouts, carrots or bell peppers as you wish.
