Brigadeiro and Other Brazilian Truffles - Recipe

At any birthday party in Brazil one thing has mandatory presence, The Brigadeiros are are bite-size chocolate sweets, genuinely Brazilian and similar with a chocolate Truffle. Just a pride!

But the brigadeiros don’t walk alone, they are always along with other sweets that use the same base ingredient (the condensed milk) but replacing the chocolate with fruits or nuts. The most common are Cajuzinho (made of peanuts), Bicho de pé (made of strawberries) and Beijinho (made of coconut).

Brigadeiro (Brazilian Chocolate Truffle)

Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensed milk (200g)
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 cups of granulated chocolate

Directions

Mix the butter, condensed milk and cocoa powder in a saucepan. Stir well over low heat until the chocolate has dissolved. It takes about 15 minutes without stopping. It’s done when you turn the pan over and it comes off. Take the pan off the stove and transfer the brigadeiro to the greased plate. Let it cool down. Place the chocolate sprinkles in a bowl and leave on the plate with the brigadeiro dough. Put a little butter in the palm of your hand and shape 2.5 cm balls with 1 teaspoon. Pass the balls of granulated chocolate through the bowl and wrap each very well. Then put the balls in the pans.

Allergens: Milk.

Cajuzinho (Brazilian Peanut Truffle)

Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensed milk (200g)
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup skinless and unsalted peanuts, roasted and ground
  • 1 cup of crystal sugar
  • Whole peanuts for garnish

Directions

In a saucepan, place the condensed milk, butter and peanuts and cocoa powder. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it comes off the bottom of the pan (about 8 minutes). Remove from heat, pass to a buttered dish and let cool. Shape the cashews, pass through the crystal sugar and decorate them with a peanut. Place in paper cups.

Allergens: Milk; Peanuts.

Bicho de Pé (Brazilian Strawberry Truffle)

Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensed milk (200g)
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 4 tbsp of strawberry Nesquik
  • 1 cup of crystal sugar

Directions

In a saucepan, place the butter, the condensed milk and the strawberry Nesquik. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it comes off the bottom of the pan. Remove from heat, pass to a buttered dish and let cool. Put a little butter in the palm of your hand and shape 2.5 cm balls with 1 teaspoon. Sift the sugar and pass the balls through the sifted sugar.

Allergens: Milk.

Beijinho (Brazilian Coconut Truffle)

Ingredients

  • 1 can of condensed milk (200g)
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 150g of grated coconut
  • 1 cup of crystal sugar
  • Cloves to garnish

Directions

In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk, butter and grated coconut. Bring to the low heat and mix for approximately 15 minutes. Remove from heat, pass to a buttered dish and let cool. Put a little butter in the palm of your hand and shape 2.5 cm balls with 1 teaspoon. Pass through the crystal sugar or grated coconut and finish with cloves.
